Natan M. Bornstein is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurology at the Elias Sourasky Medical Centre, Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Israel.

Dr Bornstein’s main research interests focused on periodic lateralised epileptiform discharges (PLEDs) following stroke are associated with metabolic abnormalities, nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, menopause and ischaemic stroke, the role of hormone replacement, antiplatelet drugs in the stroke treatment, infections as triggering factors for ischaemic stroke, Transcranial Doppler sonography, evolution and management of asymptomatic carotid stenosis and clinical significance of carotid plaque haemorrhage.

Dr Bornstein is the principle investigator in the Tel Aviv Stroke Registry and the Mediterranean Stroke Society. He is also a member of the European Stroke Care Inventory.

Dr Bornstein has authored and co-authored over 90 scientific papers on topics in cerebrovascular diseases in journals such as Stroke, Neurology, Adverse Neurology, Cardiology, Acta Diabetologia, Cerebrovascular Diseases, Lancet, Archives of Neurology, Headache, the Journal of Neurological Sciences, and the European Journal of Neurology.
