Biography

Gudrun Boysen has been Professor of Neurology at the University of Copenhagen since 1993, and has been in the Department of Neurology, Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark since 1998. Dr Boysen received a D. Med. Sci in 1973 at the University of Copenhagen with the thesis: cerebral haemodynamics in carotid surgery.

Dr Boysen’s main research area is cerebrovascular diseases with focus on epidemiology, risk factors for stroke, stroke prevention, pathophysiological mechanisms of acute ischaemic stroke, experimental stroke treatment with neuroprotective drugs and thrombolysis.

Dr Boysen is or was an investigator in the Copenhagen City Heart Study, the Tinzaparin in acute ischaemic stroke (TAIST) study, the Second Copenhagen Atrial Fibrillation, Aspirin, and Anticoagulation Study, and in the European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study (ECASS).

Dr Boysen has authored and co-authored about 232 scientific publications on cerebrovascular diseases in journals such as Stroke, JAMA, Lancet, the British Medical Journal, Neurology, the Journal of Internal Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neuroepidemiology, and the Journal of Neurological Sciences.
