Biography

Daniel Bereczki is Associated Professor of Neurology at the Department of Neurology, University Medical School in Debrecen, Hungary.

Dr Bereczki is board certified in neurology and psychiatry. His special research interests are physiology and pathophysiology of the circulation and metabolism of the central nervous system. His research focuses experimental models of focal cerebral ischaemia, ultrasound imaging of the carotid arteries, Transcranial Doppler sonography, diagnostics and therapy of cerebrovascular diseases, clinical neurology, neuroepidemiology, post-stroke conditions and rehabilitation after stroke.

Dr Bereczki started his medical career with a postdoctoral scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Science in 1984-1985. Between 1985-88 he had a residency and between 1988-1989 he was an assistant professor at the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, University Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary. Between 1989-1992 he was a visiting researcher at the Department of Neurological Surgery, State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA. Between 1992-1996 Dr Bereczki was an assistant professor at the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, University Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary. Since 1996 he is an associate professor at the Department of Neurology, University Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary.

Dr Bereczki is an investigator in the Cochrane Stroke Review Group, the Neurosonological Research Group of the World Federation of Neurology and a member of the Hungarian Stroke Society Hungarian Society of Neurologists and Psychiatrists. In 1984 he was awarded with the Weszprémi" medal for research activity during medical school by the Council of the University Medical School, Debrecen, Hungary. In 1989 he was awarded with a bursary for young scientists by the International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, Bologna, Italy, and in 1995 with the Környei Award for achievements in neurosciences Pécs, Hungary.

Dr Bereczki has authored and co-authored more than 70 scientific papers on cerebrovascular diseases and stroke in journals such as Stroke, the Journal of Neurology, Cerebrovascular Diseases, the European Journal of Neurology, and the Journal of Neuroimaging.
